What We Do

Our Services

A look at the deck work we handle most often.

Deck Installation

New deck from the ground up, built to code and set on footings below the frost line.

Deck Repair

Loose boards, wobbly rail, soft spot near the stairs, we find the cause and fix it.

Deck Staining & Sealing

Stops the graying and cracking before it turns into board replacement.

Custom Deck Design

Multi-level decks, built-in benches, whatever shape actually fits your yard.

Composite Decking Installation

No sanding, no re-staining, and the color doesn't fade the way pine does.

Deck Railing Installation & Repair

Balusters spaced to code, posts bolted through the rim joist, not just screwed to the face.

Who We Are

Built by people who work outside

We build decks, replace decks, and re-stain decks that have gone gray and splintery, mostly for homeowners in and around Milwaukee. If your deck feels spongy underfoot, or the railing wiggles when you lean on it, you already know the kind of problem we deal with every week. A lot of decks in this area were built without anyone checking the footings, and it shows up five or ten years later. We work on everything from a simple ground-level platform to a two-story deck off the back of a house.

We set footings below the frost line, so the deck doesn't heave every spring when the ground thaws. We use hot-dipped galvanized or stainless fasteners because standard hardware rusts and stains the boards within a couple of seasons. Ledger boards get flashed properly where they meet the house, which is the single most common place we find rot when we tear an old deck apart. That attention up front is why the deck is still solid a decade from now instead of needing a rebuild.

Had a soft spot right by the steps out in Wauwatosa, turned out the ledger board was rotted behind the flashing. Fixed in a day and a half.

Deck Repair · Racine, WI
Went with Trex after seeing what pressure-treated looks like after ten years. Install ran a day past schedule from rain but they kept us posted.
Mike D.
Composite Decking Installation · Waukesha, WI
Our deck out in Franklin was gray and splintery, looks like new cedar now. Stain smell lingered a couple days but worth it.

Common Questions

Questions we get a lot

Questions homeowners usually ask before booking a deck project.

Do you offer free estimates for deck projects?
Estimates for deck installation, repair, or staining are free and don't require a deposit to schedule. A quote usually follows a walk-through of the existing deck or the yard where a new one is planned, and most homeowners get a number within a day or two.
Are you licensed and insured to build decks in Wisconsin?
Deck construction work is licensed and insured, with certificates of insurance available on request before work starts. Wisconsin requires a dwelling contractor qualifier credential for residential construction work like deck building.
How soon can you start my deck project?
Scheduling depends on the season, since spring and early summer are the busiest months for deck installation in Wisconsin. Smaller jobs like repairs or staining can often be fit in within a couple of weeks, while a full new deck build may be scheduled several weeks out.
What areas around Milwaukee do you work in?
Deck installation and repair services cover Milwaukee and surrounding communities including Waukesha, West Allis, Wauwatosa, Racine, and other towns within about 50 miles. Distance from Milwaukee may add a small trip charge for smaller jobs.
Do you build decks for both older homes and new construction?
Decks get built and repaired on homes of every age, from older bungalows with an existing deck that needs replacing to brand new construction where the deck is part of the original plan. Older homes often need extra work at the ledger board where the deck meets the house.
Will you take on a small deck repair job, or only full builds?
Small repair jobs like a single rotted board, a loose railing post, or a sagging step get scheduled just like full deck builds. Plenty of deck problems start small, and fixing them early is cheaper than waiting until the whole structure needs replacing.
How do I get started with a deck project?
A call or message describing the problem or the project, whether that's a wobbly railing or a brand new deck idea, is the first step. A visit to look at the deck or the yard usually follows, and a written quote comes after that.
What does a new deck typically cost?
Deck cost depends mainly on size, height off the ground, and material, with pressure-treated pine costing considerably less than composite decking like Trex. Railing style, stairs, and any built-in features like benches or a pergola also add to the total.
Do you require a deposit before starting deck work?
A deposit is typically required to schedule a deck project once materials are ordered, since lumber and composite decking are bought specifically for each job. The remaining balance is usually due when the deck is finished and inspected.
What happens if it rains during my deck build?
Framing work can often continue in light rain, but pouring footings, staining, and any final finish work gets pushed to the next dry day. Wisconsin weather means most deck schedules build in some buffer for a rained-out day here and there.
